13 Little Blue Envelopes

by Maureen Johnson
Fiction
322 pages

Would you follow the directions? Would you be willing to travel in foreign countries to follow mysterious letters written by a deceased relative?

While traveling in Europe, Virginia discovered more about her aunt’s life.
Each of the envelopes contained a new destination for Virginia to explore. As she traveled in foreign lands she meets Keith, who ends up being more like Virginia’s aunt than she expected.

Seventeen-year-old Virginia and her Aunt Peg were very close. When Virginia was young they would spend time together, even though Virginia’s mother thought it was a waste of time. After her aunt takes off to go find a “better life”, Virginia yearns to see her once again. Then all of a sudden Aunt Peg is dead.

Both Aunt Peg and Keith struggled with being poor. Along their journeys people were kind enough to support them in many ways. This helped Virginia realize that having a kind heart has its rewards.
