A math formula that can predict how long a relationship will last? You must be kidding!
Child prodigy Colin Singleton isnt kidding. Hes always been interested in a certain type of girl. In fact, the type of girl he likes always seems to be named Katherine.
Still reeling after his latest dumping by Katherine XIX, (who, by the way, is also Katherine the 1st) Colin begins work on The Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability which he feels anyone should be able to use to calculate how long their own relationship will last.
Embarking on a healing road trip always seems like a good idea to any hero and Colin is no exception. He and his delightfully slothful best and only friend Hassan leave Chicago on a hilarious and heartbreaking vision quest. After arriving in Gutshot, Tennessee, Colin and Hassan go in search of the grave of Archduke Ferdinand, who the locals swear is buried in their town, not Austria.
Their tour guide Lindsey, who first tells them that the tour is a rip off, later offers to put them up for the night at her mothers pink mansion. It is here they stay for the next few weeks, meeting Lindseys hard-working mom Hollis and all the citizens of Gutshot, most of who have connections to the local factory which is owned by Hollis. It manufactures, strangely enough, tampon strings
During his stay in Gutshot, Colin also continues work on his Theorem, hoping he will find a way to heal himself and keep this kind of heartbreak from happening again. But, predictably, as he makes headway on the Theorem, he also makes headway with Lindsey. Colin also gets to relive his childhood, learning to cruise, hunt feral pigs and be an interesting conversationalist.
This is a hilarious new book from the author of the much more serious Looking for Alaska. It is an enchanting read!
