Hatchet

by Gary Paulson
Adventure/survival
195 pages

“Secret” page three. Brian kept saying this because he would have never been stranded in the middle of the woods if the “secret” would have never happened. The secret was that his parents where having fights, and the other boyfriend that his mom had and Brian’s dad did not know about.
Brian was on his way to go see his dad for the first time in five years. Before Brian left home his mom gave him a hatchet. While Brian was on a small plane it was just him and the pilot, the pilot ended up having a heart attack. So Brian had to take over and fly the plane, and Brian had no idea which way he had to go. Eventually he ran out of gas and Brian started to go down. While he was going down he saw a lake. Brian did not have a float plane so when he hit the lake he had to get out as fast as he could. Brian did survive the crash but now he is stranded in the middle of the northern Canadian woods.
The theme of the book would be survival, out in the middle of the woods with nothing but him self and his hatchet. I do not think that I could relate to this book what so ever. It is out standing for how long Brian lasted with only his hatchet.
Something that this book reminds me of is the movie Castaway. They both are alone and have nothing, and they have to keep them selves alive.
