Because of Winn-Dixie

by Kate DiCamillo
Family and Relationships
182 pages

This book is a great story for families about a girl and her dog’s great relationship and how each one benefits from one another. They can make each other happy or by being able to cheer them up in situations where they are really down and sad.

The story starts by explaining how India (main character) meets a dog. India names the dog Winn Dixie after the store name in which she found Winn Dixie. Throughout the story each character learns how much each other can help and benefit one another and how much work each one will do to keep the friendship alive.

The story I think really shows how much friendship helps a person get through hard times even when they don’t realize it helps and I think this story really shows that really well. Like in one part of the book India can’t find Winn Dixie and goes with her dad through tremendous lengths to try and find Winn Dixie even through a big rain storm.

In conclusion the story is really good short read that will bring a smile to your face and it is a really good read for a young audience. The book won the John Newberry award which is an award that is awarded to a book that is related to a young audience and it also means that it was one of the bestselling books for the year that I came out.
