Please include the following in each book critique you write. Assume that your critique will begin with the hook, but you may cover the other 3 requirements in any way or order you see fit.
1. A Hook.
An opening statement designed to catch the potential reader's attention. It may consist of a quote or a short description of something funny, outrageous, shocking or unusual from the book. Think about what you found most interesting as you read.
2. Plot.
Concisely describe what happened in the book. Try to interest a potential reader in the things that make this book unique. You may hint at, but not give away the ending of the book. This section should be only 3-4 sentences long.
3. Character.
Tell about the main characters and their relationships to one another. Again, what makes these characters different or special? What might potential readers find interesting about them?
4. Theme.
What might readers learn from reading this book? Do characters discover something about themselves or the world? How could this theme relate to someone reading the book?
5. Related Works (optional)
What other books does this book remind you of? Are the characters, plot or theme similar to any thing you've read before? You could even compare to a movie or TV show!
Remember that your purpose in writing this critique is to interest someone else in this book! Think about what excited you about the book and try to convey that to other readers. Don't be afraid to give your own opinion, but always base those opinions on what you read.
